But we got it home and put it together and it seems to be an instant hit with Chilli.

As soon as it was down on the floor, she had worked out what she had to do, and as the ball rolls back when it gets to the end of the circuit, it kept her interested for ages.

Amber on the other hand seems to be takign a little longer to get the hang of it, she’s interested, but she hasn’t figured out that she’s meant to put her paws inside the circuit to hit the ball and keeps pawing at the outside. At least its catching her attention though!

All in all a very good buy, for our increasingly spoilt felines!

Whilst browseing our local ‘The Range’ store, we...

Whilst browseing our local ‘The Range’ store, we came across these gorgeous framed cat artwork prints, absolutely perfect for our black and red themed lounge diner, and just our style! They cost just £3.99 each as well so a bit of a bargain for any cat lover.

The Great Outdoors

Amber and Chilli are 90% indoor pets, there are plenty of reasons for and against keeping cats as indoor only pets, but I have always found the reasons for to be more compelling, however I have always thought that if they wanted to go outside, I shouldn’t permanently prevent this, so they are allowed limited access to the outdoor world. During their time indoors, they are kept occupied by the cat tree, a plethora of cat toys, the frolicat bolt laser toy and an excercise ball which deposits treats as they bash it round the room. Not to mention plenty of human interaction in the form of the ‘da bird’ fishing rod style toy.

They are never allowed outside unless someone is home (in case the worst should happen and they are injured) and never at night (my mums cat Casper was hit by a car during the night and lost a leg). During the summer, we spend a lot of time in the garden and leave the doors open so they can join us, they are people cats and will get upset if they can see us but not get to us. During the winter and colder months, it is impractical to be leaving doors open, and we rent our house so can’t install a cat flap, but they have developed a novel way to let us know when they want to come in.

We have a large bay window at the back of our lounge diner, and they have learnt that if they just onto the windowsill and bang on the window with their paws, that we will come to the back door and let them in. It seems to work very well and they are usually only out for 15-20 minutes before they request access back inside.

Cats really are remarkable creatures!

Here is the video of my cats, Amber and Chilli playing with...

Here is the video of my cats, Amber and Chilli playing with their Frolicat Bolt, please excuse the beeping at the beginning, its my partners phone message tone!

The Frolicat Bolt, lazy cat entertaining at its best

Everyone who knows cats, knows that cats love laser pointers. Ours had been content with an extremely cheap pound shop pointer that required a human to sit and wiggle it until their hand threatened to drop off.

Enter the Frolicat Bolt, we bought this as a Christmas present for the cats and it has been one of the most successful things we have ever bought them (second only to the cat tree, more info on this in my next post).

The Frolicat Bolt is extremely easy to set up, just insert batteries into the small bowling pin shaped device, press the button on the back to turn it on and direct the laser at the right part of the floor using a slider n top, that’s it! When you press the button, the toy will move the laser pointer around the floor, much to the delight of any nearby cats. It stops automatically after 15 minutes and provides further feline entertainment while they wander round looking for that illusive red dot.

The toy also has a freestyle mode, where you can pick it up and use it a bit like a regular laser pointer, but surprisingly enough, I haven’t tried that yet, after all - I need both hands to video the action…

Meet my cats

I have always been a cat person, and since my 9th birthday I have been owned by at least one feline. What follows is a little insight into the cats that have formed part of my life for nearly 20 years. I’m hoping that my little corner of the internet will become a place for all things cat, from daft photos, videos and stories, to product reviews and care information for those of you who are lucky enough to be owned by cats.

In a cat’s eye, all things belong to cats. (English proverb)

My first cat, Lucy, a shining black moggy with traces of a siamese heritage, adopted me on my 9th birthday (she was pretty much the best birthday present I’ve ever had). Several months earlier I had innocently offered her a saucer of milk after she jumped over the fence into our back garden. Her visits became more regular and it transpired that she belonged to a lady from some flats nearby who had adopted her on a whim only to find that she did not get on with the resident cat. The months went by and on the evening of my birthday both lady and cat arrived on the doorstep and she officially became part of the family. Lucy and I had just over 9 years of happiness together before she passed away of old age, leaving her pawprint on my heart. I was addicted…

Casper the tiny grey kitten arrived a couple of years later, with a purr far too big for his little body (he grew into it!) and a serious naughty streak (he didn’t grow out of that!). Over the years he has grown into a large and very beautiful tom cat who thinks he owns the place and that humans are essentially just overcomplicated tin openers! A definite character, he has been lost for 5 days, found to only have 1 testicle and lost a rear leg following a car accident several years ago. He still lives in the family home with my parents.

In 2007 I moved into my own flat, but there was something missing and it just didn’t feel like home. In March 2008 I rescued a pair of little ginger kittens, 6 months old and both girls, which is unusual as ginger cats are generally boys. They were suffering from cat flu but beyond the snotty noses, there was a look in their runny, sticky eyes that I fell in love with and that was it… I had intended to rescue one cat, but now it would be 2 that came home with me.

This photo was taken the day that Amber and Chilli came home with me, it didn’t take them long to settle in!

Since they arrived they have well and truly made themselves the queens of the household. There will be plenty more about them in the days and weeks to come!
